Frequently asked questions
How do I delete my account?
In the app, open Profile → Settings → Delete account. Once confirmed, your profile and all of your posts and messages are permanently removed. After deletion you can contact support within 30 days to restore access (content cannot be restored).
How do I report inappropriate content or behaviour?
Tap the "⋯" icon on any post and select "Report". The same gesture works on messages in chat. A moderator reviews reports within 24 hours and you'll get a notification with the outcome.
Why aren't any Encounters showing up?
Encounters require Bluetooth and "Always" location permission to detect other phones running Chansee nearby. Check iOS Settings → Chansee that both are granted. In the app you can flip these in Profile → Settings → Encounters (location sharing). If still nothing shows, it likely means there aren't enough other users in your immediate area yet — Chansee is in early launch and is still building local critical mass.
What does "reveal" mean in a chat?
Every encounter chat starts anonymously (you appear as "Anonymous Passerby"). At any point you can propose a mutual reveal by tapping "Reveal" — both parties must agree. After mutual agreement the real names and photos appear. The reveal is permanent for that chat.
How does the daily "That's me" limit work?
The "That's me" button can be used once every 24 hours (Premium users get three). The limit is intentional — it keeps each claim genuinely about someone who caught your attention, and prevents post authors from being flooded with bulk responses.
What does Chansee know about me? Is it really anonymous?
Posts on the Board never carry your name or photo — they're authored under an anonymous nickname. Encounter detection uses only anonymous Bluetooth identifiers, no personal data. Your real name and photos are seen only by people you've mutually revealed yourself to in chat. Full details in the Privacy Policy.
Is Chansee GDPR compliant? What data do you store?
Yes. Chansee is built in the Czech Republic and processes personal data in line with GDPR (EU Regulation 2016/679) and Czech Act No. 110/2019. Specifically we store:
- Profile data — display name, age, gender, city, photos, bio (entered by you during onboarding, visible only after mutual reveal in chat)
- Anonymous nickname — derived from a stable user ID for chats and Encounters (e.g. "Anonymous Charmer #57")
- Location — GPS coordinates to filter posts by city; with Encounters enabled also a pseudonymous trail roughly every 20 s
- Bluetooth identifiers — temporary pseudonymous BLE IDs to detect other Chansee users nearby (rotated every ~15 min)
- Content — your posts, messages, reactions and greetings
- Technical data — app version, phone model, push token (FCM), login timestamps (for diagnostics and notification delivery)
Your GDPR rights: access, rectification, erasure, objection, portability. To exercise them email info@chansee.app. Deleting your account (Profile → Settings → Delete account) removes all data within 30 days.
Does Chansee use cookies or tracking?
Chansee is a mobile app, not a website — you won't see "accept cookies" banners in the app. Instead we use:
- Local device storage (SharedPreferences) — for your settings (language, design, Encounters master toggle). Without this the app would have no memory between launches. Essential — no consent prompt needed.
- Auth token (Supabase session) — so you don't sign in every time. No tracking, just identification.
- Firebase Cloud Messaging token (FCM) — for delivering push notifications. The token is an anonymous device identifier, not your identity.
- Firebase Analytics — aggregated diagnostics (how many users open the Board, where errors occur). No personal data, just statistics.
The chansee.app website uses only technical cookies essential for functioning. No marketing or profiling cookies.
